Paul Clark is retired after teaching instrumental music in Iowa public schools for thirty-two years. He holds a B.A. in music education from the University of Northern Iowa, where he gained valuable experience in that school's distinguished jazz program. He is a member of ASCAP and many other professional organizations, and is in frequent demand as an adjudicator and clinician.

Paul has composed over 125 works for jazz ensemble, most of which are published by the C. L. Barnhouse Company. Since his first published chart in 1973, his music has been popular with directors and students alike, and many of his charts are consistent best sellers with school jazz bands of all experience levels. He is the co-author of the popular "First Gig" combo books which has given rise to five other books in the same series.

As a performer on piano and trumpet, Paul has appeared with many great musicians and entertainers including Buddy Rich, Steve Allen, Bob Hope, John Davidson, Anita Bryant, Bobby Rydell, The Four Lads, Gordon MacRae, Gloria Loring, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Peter Palmer, and many others. He has also performed with a number of musical productions and shows, and has composed and arranged music for literally hundreds of productions.

Recordings of many of Paul’s jazz charts are available on the Walking Frog Records CDs “Have Yourself a Big Band Christmas: The Holiday Music of Paul Clark,” and “Baby Drives a Fast Car: The Jazz Music of Paul Clark,” performed by The Studio “A” Big Band.
