Jackson Anderson (b. 1994) is a composer, conductor, and adjudicator, specializing in wind band music. An “Okie,” Jackson was born in Oklahoma City, raised in Guymon, and graduated (with honors) from Chisholm High School in Enid. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He is published by C. L. Barnhouse, Co, and Rremboq Music.

His music has been performed all across the United States. “The Journey Home,” for wind ensemble, was selected as the Grand Prize Winner of the Sul Ross State University Wind Ensemble Composition Competition and was premiered in Alpine, TX in October of 2013. In May of 2014, “Argestes Fanfare,” for trumpet ensemble, was premiered at the 2014 International Trumpet Guild Conference by the SWOSU Trumpet Ensemble; Dr. Richard Tirk, conducting. In April of 2015, the SWOSU Wind Symphony premiered his “To go and rest with thee” dedicated in memory to the composer’s friend and mentor, the late Dr. Dennis Widen. In late summer of 2015, he completed his first vocal set based on text by William Blake entitled “Three Songs of Experience.” The set was premiered in October (2015) by the Mastermind Chamber Ensemble: Kristen Williams, soprano, Hayden Stephenson, flute, with the composer at the piano. Several of Jackson’s band, choral, chamber, and solo works have been performed at recitals, contests, and festivals.

Jackson has studied conducting and music pedagogy with Mr. Marc Mueller, piano with Ms. Phyllis Claycomb, Dr. Steve Betts, Ms. Anthea Lin, Ms. Yu-Ling Chen, and the late Dr. Dennis Widen; horn with Ms. Janis South; and voice with Dr. Kristin Griffeath. He has received guidance from composers Ed Huckeby, Gary Gackstatter, Samuel Hazo, Scott McAllister, John Mackey, and has participated in a composition Masterclass with Zhou Long.

Jackson holds affiliation with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Kappa Psi, and the National Association for Music Education. He previously served as the Vice President of the Collegiate Oklahoma Music Educators Association State Board. Jackson is also a founding member of the Mastermind Chamber Ensemble, a trio comprised of soprano, flute, and piano. He performs as the pianist and also as the composer/arranger. He completed his student teaching at Wylie East High School and Burnett Jr. High in Wylie, TX in May of 2016, where he studied with master teachers Glenn Lambert and Ross Patterson.

Jackson is currently Director of Bands at Garber High School in Garber, Oklahoma.
